Each summer, Gasper River hires young people for full-summer positions in which the staff live on site and work from the end of May to the end of July. We also have young people that work or volunteer for select weeks of the summer. Please read through the positions to see which would be a best fit for you. Important dates and application links are listed after the position descriptions. full-Summer positions
summer ministry staff
To be eligible for the Summer Ministry Staff position, you must be at least one year removed from high school and a strong, practicing Christian. The primary duties of a Summer Ministry Staff member are to facilitate summer camp activities, lead small group discussions, and mentor the youth. Periodically during the summer, Summer Ministry Staff members will serve as Staff Counselors. Staff Counselor’s primary duties are to stay in the rooms with the youth, lead small groups, oversee volunteer counselors, and act as a liaison between the staff and volunteer counselors.
All applicants need to attend one interview weekend. The dates are Jan. 17-19, Feb. 21-23, or March 7-9.

Photographer/Social media manager
To be eligible for the Photographer/Social Media Manager position, you must be at least 18 years old and a strong, practicing Christian. The primary duties will be to take pictures of camp activities, update social media and our camp app daily, and make picture DVDs at the end of each week. They will also help create promotional materials for camp and staff. They should be comfortable taking pictures, using Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok, and creating graphics (using Canva, Illustrator, etc.) The Photographer/Social Media manager will live on site (unless they have a place to live nearby).

Music Minister
To be eligible for the Music Minister position, you must be at least one year removed from high school and a practicing Catholic. The Music Minister will be the primary instrumentalist and song leader for the camp. They will also lead the music team in delegating responsibilities and selecting appropriate music for Mass, Adoration, Praise & Worship, and silly camp songs. They must be comfortable leading a large group in music and have good leadership and interpersonal skills. The Music Minister will live on site for the entire summer.

Health care provider
To be eligible for this position, you must have a minimum of 1 year in Nursing/EMT/Medical school or have CMT certification, and be a strong practicing Christian. You must be qualified to administer first aid, dispense prescription medications, assess need for and administer OTC medications for issues such as headache, heartburn, and bee stings, and assume charge during emergency medical situations. Staff Health Care Provider is also responsible for maintaining accurate health records and following procedures for proper sanitation at camp. The Health Care Provider will live on site the entire summer.

Weekly positions
Volunteer Counselor
To be eligible to be a Volunteer Counselor, you must be at least 16 years old at the time of volunteering and a strong, practicing Christian. Those wishing to help with high school camps must be at least one year removed from high school. The primary duties of a Volunteer Counselor are to assist the staff in supervising campers. Volunteer Counselors will stay in the bedrooms with campers to assist with mornings and bedtimes, go to Adventure Activities with their small group, participate in whole-camp games and activities, and help lead small group discussions along with a staff member.
All counselors will need to attend a Counselor/SIT Training over zoom. Counselors that are 18 or older will need to complete Safe Environment training through the Diocese of Owensboro as well.

Staff in Training (SIT)
To be eligible to be an SIT, you must be at least 16 years old at time of employment and a strong, practicing Christian. The primary duties of an SIT are working in the kitchen to prepare, serve, and clean up after meals. SITs will also stay in the bedrooms with campers and help the counselors and staff supervise bedtime. When kitchen duties are complete, SITs have the opportunity to join in camp activities and get observation hours on activities. If you are interested in being a staff member in the future, this is a great way to get a glimpse of what it takes to work at camp.
All SITs will need to attend a Counselor/SIT Training over zoom. SITs that are 18 or older will need to complete Safe Environment training through the Diocese of Owensboro as well.
